Being a kid
Do you remember Greatest American Hero? How about The A-Team? Growing Pains?
Are you Being Served? - Great British Comedy as well as Hyacinth and Richard in Keeping Up Appearances?
Do you remember Knight Rider? How about Growing Pains?
As for Movies...how about The Goonies? and my all time favourite....Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Europe?
Television was my baby sitter. I was a latch-key kid.
Mom worked all the time and if I wasn't involved in an after school activity, which at McNaughton High, if you didn't have the right parents, social status, older jock brother or sister...you were crap so there was never any need for me to try out for any school stuff because I was a poor white kid with a single mother.
So television was my sitter, after school most days.
Tuesday evenings I was involved with the commumnity band. I played a wicked baritone (medium sized tuba). It was bigger than me for many years. My grapa always had to carry it in for me. I started out playing the piccolo, then moved to trumpet and played that for many, many years. Then my band director discovered the baritone and that instrument was for me. I went to the University of Brandon for many years, every Saturday for private lessons. I still play a mean baritone to this day!
Wednesdays were tap, jazz and ballet lessons...a useless fact is that I can actually teach tap. I received my tap papers years ago. I danced from about age 5 till I was 18. Every once in awhile, I get in the mood to tap still.
Thursdays were piano lessons. I hated piano. My big clunky fingers always stumbled over themselves. my piano teacher, Mrs. Smith was awesome! I loved her to pieces.
Thursday nights were dreaded Air Cadets. My mom was big in Air Cadets so naturally I had to join. The year I joined was awful. We had no NCO and all we did that year were drills. No camping, no plane rides...nothing. As a little kid I went everywhere with mom and the cadets. I did go gliding, camping, and all sorts, but the year I actually joined...sucked.
Sunday Afternoons were band practice again. Shorty's Band. I can't tell you how many competitions we entered, how many times we played at the parliament building for the mucky mucks. Crazy.
Of course I had horse shows to go to in the summer and always placed, played fastball and was damn good at it. I was on the Provincial Softball team for years. Had a kick-ass throwing arm. I played catcher and could throw from home to center...as well I could hit a ball pretty good too!
My grapa and grama were huge in my life. They took care of me when mom was gone and working. They carted things around and paid for some of my "developing talents". My mom kept me busy which made me stay outta trouble! God love her!
Not sure how I got time in for television!

Flashbacks
Yes, I had an interesting day yesterday.
I was working at the hell job. I was talking to a customer when another approached me needing help.
OF COURSE I would help!
What does this gentleman need? I ask and he says a nice dressy vest and a black shirt. I ask if its for a special occasion. I get a "no".....???? Ok..I need a little more help here.
So I ask if its a party. Again, "no".....???? Ummmm, I can't help you if I don't know.
So I ask what its for. He tells me he is a musician...well, thats better. Now I can help. So he needs it for performance time...."yes"!! YAY! We have something here...
So, I get him into a really nice vest with a black shirt and he spots another, and we then both head up to the till. I ring him through and he hands me his credit card.
Yup! It was Barney Bentall. I almost fell over. A Canadian musician...under the radar, shopping at Lammles.
We chatted and he then gave me his two new CD's, some info and off he went. He was a happy customer and I, a happy fan.
Great stuff.

Th-th-th-th-that's all folkth.....
I just came back from a very long complicated procedure. Something that should have lasted only and hour and a half, lasted over two hours....Yes. A root canal!
I have had worse surgeries like rhinoplasty and gall bladder, but I really don't like anyone fooling with my mouth. Really.
My jaw is very sore and I'm not gonna lie...I am still drooling a wee bit. My tongue is numb and the side of my face is droopy.
And.....I talk like daffy duck/sylvestre.
Very embarrassing when there is a teachers convocation going on here at work today.
I hope I spelled everything alright....I'm still not with it.

A little advice
Once again, I had an ah-ha moment on the weekend.
When I got married. I hyphenated my last name. Some things I put in his last name only, like credit cards and some I kept my maiden and hyphenated it with his.
I kept my last name just in case my dead beat dad was ever trying to find me, because I certainly could not find him.
Now, I never wish divorce on anyone but these are the things I now know:
1). Make sure you have your own credit established.
2). Make sure you are in the "know" of the finances in the household.
3). Pay some of the bills yourself.
4). Don't have a joint account, and if you do, start your own! Please!
5). Make sure you have a least one credit card in your name! This does not include the airmiles card!!
6). Keep your last name. Hyphenate the thing and sign his last name on everything to make him feel better, but for heaven sake...keep your last name. Way less hassle to get it back...if you so choose. If your happy with carrying on his last name even in the case of divorce well, that's up to you. But should you choose to ever, ever get your maiden name back....it's not easy.
ok....I feel better now.
Three and a half years later and I'm still fighting it....not him per say, but the name thing.
I just want my name back. Who knew it would be this hard to get MY identity back.
This is me, Fairy Mae.... and I'm still shaking my head.

Wrinkles
So I am concerned.
I have very prominent wrinkles across my forehead.
I need a haircut soon.
Do I keep growing my bangs out to expose my forehead OR do I continue to cut my bangs, therefore hiding my forehead?
I am very selfconscious about my wrinkles. I hate the thought of wrinkles everywhere. I have a tattoo of horsesn running across my lower back. I must continue to exercise or the horses will be running across my butt. I have a few tattoos and I have put them specifically in places that will not sag. There are none on my chest. There are none on my belly.
But I do have wrinkles and I have considered other alternatives to get rid of them, but then I would have to continue to get these little inperfections corrected month after month.
Maybe I should get my bangs back.
And another thing....
Why can't I have the body of Angelina Jolie? or Cate Blanchett? Oh, yes, I remember....it just isn't going to happen when you wrist bone is as big as Angelina's thigh...I come from good German breeding stock...that's right, I'm built like a brick $h!t house!!!
Ah, I'm nicer anyway. I may not have their money or good looks, but I have a heart of gold.

What were you doing a year ago today???
My dear friend Poopsie tagged me...
What was I doing one year ago today....
I was boarding a plane with Legs and we were heading to Vegas baby!!
We stayed overnight at a little hotel just outside of Edmonton the night before we were to leave. This little hotel was so nice.
We then boarded the plane very early the next morning and headed out.
We stayed for 4 days at the Tropicana. There was a fire on our floor and we were hussled out of our room and down the stairs. We were on the...hmmm...well, we were very high up and flying down a 1000 stairs took no time flat.
Some moron, was smoking in the room and put the cigarette out in the waste basket? Loser.
So once we exited the premises, we went shopping and took the train thingy to old Vegas. Next time we go, we will be staying in Old Vegas.
We saw Sandra Oh getting out of her limo. In fact we were right beside her walking into the Golden Nugget. We were also there for the filming of Kevin Spaceys flick "21". I stayed and watched hoping to be "discovered" by a producer. Legs got bored and went gambling.
We attended the “Folies Bergere”, which was highly entertaining seeing as how they were nude from the waist up. Ok, so it was entertaining to Legs. To me it was a bunch of boobs flopping around.
All in all it was a great weekend though and we are looking forward to going to Vegas again soon.
Now, my turn to ask the question:

Your word
Today was it.
Saturday was hell as I worked with the F.O.H nightmare. She managed to piss off a whole lot of volunteers and, as for me....I have had it too.
On another note...
I bought two...BOUGHT...rather than comp them at my work place, bought two tickets for Legs to go see a world class guitarist and one of his buddies who he was taking backed out. SO I have an extra ticket...I may even use it and let the boss do my job backstage for a change!
On another note...
I talked to a couple of girlfriends to see if they wanted to go view a classic movie on the big screen and one has backed out. Not sure about the other, quite frankly, I am scared to ask.
I don't do that to other people. Why does it continually happen to me? Well, I guess we will chalk it up to the Year of Being Me and changes will implement there too. Boy, I have just had an ah-ha moment....let me ponder....ya see, that's the thing, a person gets three tries with me. You strike out and you get no more effort on my part, and the girlfriend just threw her last strike.
I've had it with people giving me their "word". From now on I want to see "your word" written in blood! I am sick of arranging things for people who express interest and give me a thumbs up to continue to arrange these certain things and then they back out. Well, I've had it. I am not doing it anymore!
I see a pattern here....
You wanna go, you make the arrangements.
I'm done.

Movie Critic Time...
Well the Oscars are around the corner.
I'm kinda rootin' for Milk.
I would root a little more for Benjamin Button, but I really don't like Brad Pitt that much. He has really turned me off since the whole Angelina thing happened. I am a HUGE fan of Cate Blanchett though....HUGE! She is one person I would love to meet.
I am also rootin' for Kate and Leo as well. Ahhhh, together again. "I'm king of the worrrrrld."

wonders never cease
Well, Legs found out last night, while I was working at the hell job, that I was planning to go out with the girls tonight. Seeing as how he left me high and dry the night before with no phone call telling me he wasn't coming home for supper....I thought I would do the same....but, alas, no secrets at his work place!
L: Why didnt you tell me you were going out tomorrow night?
FM: What's it to you, you don't tell me when you're going out?
L: Good point.
He ponders....Says I'll be back.
FM: ok and I shrug my shoulders, wondering what's up.
About an hour later, Legs comes back with supper for me. That's a nice thing to do.
Gives me a kiss on the forehead and says see you later, and leaves the hell job.
15 minutes later my cell phone rings and I run to the back where my purse and such are and answer it. It's Legs'.
L: Thought I would let you know that I was gonna come back and have supper with you but Jay called and wants to go for supper with me.
FM: Oh thats cool. Say Hi to him for me and have a good evening.
L: You too, I'll talk to you later.
We both hang up.
I'm thinking, huh, maybe he is learning.....I guess time will tell.

Remember when....
Do you remember Captain Caveman?
How about Shmoo!
Now I am really dating myself.
You must remember the Smurfs...how about the song Smurfing Beer? Iused to have all the Smurf records!
Shaun Cassidy and Da Doo Ron Ron.
The Partridge Family and The Fonz (who's now doing musicals).
Television programming at its best. Now adays, and don't get me wrong...I love Law & Order, but the original. Why do we need 5 CSI's and 4 Law & Orders and 2 Grey's Anatomy and 2 The Mentalists? Why?
What happened to Three's Company, Happy Day's, The Carol Burnett Show. Or, how about The Gong Show. Back then that was reality t.v!! Now its The Amazing Race, The Bachelor, The Sober House...what happened to us!!!
Saturday Morning t.v. was You Can't do that on Television. The Electric Company, The Smurfs....For Heavens Sake, The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show! Now, its considered violent!!! Are you kidding me?! Has any watched t.v. lately?!
Hee Haw! The Lawrence Welk Show, Welcome Back Kotter, Oh and let's not forget the one soap my grama never missed....The Edge of Night.
Where is Dallas? Now we get The Sopranos!
Bahhhh.

Apparently I am the one who needs professional help. Yup. Me.
I became unglued last night when I had supper made and no phone call from Legs to say he was going for drinks with the guys after work and then showing up at 8pm. He has done this before. I thought it was nipped in the bud....I guess it's not.
Its disrespectful. I don't do it to him and I expect the same treatment....but I am not getting it and then I am the bad guy for raining on his parade when he walks through the door.
Then, he gets mad at me cuz I am mad at him. This makes no sense to me. Can someone out there in blogland pleeeeeze explain it to me. Have I missed something. I know his cell is hooked up to Sasktel!
Seeing as how this is the Year of Being Me, I decided last night when I was told that I needed professional help to deal with my outbursts, to stop giving a damn and to only think of me.
Thursday, the girls and I are going to dinner and a movie. I'm wanting to not call him to tell him what's going on, but yet I do want to tell him so he then knows that at least one of us can be accountable, and make an example of it.

There are gonna be some changes. And some people may or may not like it.

I forgive
Just read a little story by BJ Roan.
Made me think about the last time I saw a loved one before they passed.
I was there for my grama's passing. I'll never forget it. Asking her to ask grapa for forgive me for not being there for his passing and her saying she will. Telling her that I loved her and her whipsering it back to me. Hearing "the death rattle". The last breath. It was truly a moment.
I wasn't there for my grapa's passing. I have a hard time forgiving my family for not telling me sooner. All the surrounding events that happened before the hospital and especially while he was in the hospital. All my family members being able to talk to him and be with him, all but me. Ok, I forgive, but not ever forget.
I don't remember much of grapa's funeral.
I remember grama's funeral.
ok...I forgive.

The Yes Man
Its just easier to say yes.
I can't be bothered to fight, argue or try to make a point. I usually just say yes and fume inside.
Yesterday, we had an "emergency" marketing meeting. There are a couple of shows that are lacking in ticket sales.
First of all, it is February. People are still cleaning up from Christmas bills and those that are not, are in Mexico or somewhere hot...
Secondly, I can only do so much free advertising on shows. It drives me! I was grilled about all the places I do free advertising. All that were suggested, I said yes to.
Thirdly, if they think they can do a better job, then go for it. I'm not stopping them.
I think what really puts me in a twist are the people who are doing the suggesting. These people who are telling me where I should be going are the ones who are house wives, who's husbands pull in hundreds of thousands of dollars, while they go to the gym for the morning, or go to the spa for the morning, or get their nails done in the morning, then in the afternoons, they go shopping, then pick up the kids from school. Full bloody day for them doing dick all.
They are spewing the suggestions...well, I say...go, go. You do it. You're driving by there anyway, on your way to get your hair done.
One woman who's on the Foundation committee asked me if I could go around to one of the sponsor places to get a wine list for the upcoming Gala that is being held here. I asked her why she couldn't do it. SHE goes to the gym every morning. I asked her if she goes all morning? She said yes!
My eyes nearly popped out of my head. So, I said yes. Its just easlier sometimes.
If your gonna do a job right the first time, just do it yourself.... and take the credit!

I see dead people.
The other morning...wait....I should explain first.
Both of my beloved grandparents have passed over. We (mom and I) are not ready to "let go" as of yet.
Grama and Grapa were cremated. Now....
This is actually a funny story....well, I thought it was funny.....
The other morning, I got up and stumbled to the kitchen where mommy was. We don't talk much first thing in the morning. We are neither happy nor grumpy...we just exist.
"Coffee?" (mom)
"Yup." (me)
"I saw dead people." (me)
"Where?" (mom)
"My room." (me)
"Right." (mom)
When I woke up that morning, I noticed that my make up bag was on something wooden. When I put my glasses on to see what mom was making this time (she's pretty crafty), it turned out to be grama's urn! (She wasn't makin' nothin'.) I then thought, well if grama is in here, then so must be grapa...yup, he was on the desk!
We both laughed our butts off.
Mom said, "Well nothing will harm you if they are in there!"
I thought maybe it would bother me knowing they were in my room, but in a strange way it comforted me even more.

Good Gravy!!
Well, jeez, it's been awhile since I was on here!! No, I'm not slipping. I was at my mommy's house for the week. Out on the farm it's still dial up and it's very painful...not only that but I busted my butt while I was there and the computer was the last place I was gonna go.
Monday and Tuesday, Mommy had to work.
Wednesday we hauled ten 2500 pound round bales to the horses. We dumped them off then physically moved them to strategic places for easier access for the nags. By the time we were done, I was bruised but not sore.
Thursday was hell day. I am no longer the 20 something that could push her weight plus someone elses around all day. I have lost tone and muscle mass living here in Border Town and chores that need to be done can be done with the tractor...not "us" anymore. Thursday was rough. We loaded one hundred square bales from one place and hauled them home. I then unloaded the damn things for mom to put on the bale loader and while she was doing that I was in the loft putting them up there. So essentially I moved 100 bales 3 times...not happy and very, very sore!
Friday was home day. Driving 8 hours and not stopping along the way to stretch was a bad idea too. The poor gas attendant at Radisson thought I needed help to get out of the car....poor buggar.
Saturday and Sunday I worked at the hell job. Made my quota, and here I am today..at my desk. Ahhhh...still sore, tired and bruised...but this too shall pass.
