Only Child Syndrome

My photo
The fact is this...I am a LATE thirty-something, an only child with one living parent and I hate, by the way, being an only child.

I am a drama queen and I know it, and I love it and I won't change it!

I am finally in a career that I love and I finally found someone special, just for me and my dramatic nature!

I am a horse lover. I love and ride Appaloosa horses.

I am and artsy-farts and love all aspects of the Arts and Culture. I am an Independent Stylist for Stella & Dot and love the jewels.

I have a dog who is my four legged baby, her name is Effie and I have another three legged baby and her name is Daisy.

Random thoughts

I don't have any kids nor do I see any in the future. I does kinda bug me though, when people tell me that I don't know what responsibility is until I have a kid. That I would do anything in the world for them, I would die for them, I would protect them until my dying day. And I know I would, if I had any....

Well, the same goes for my horses and dog.. I would die for them. Unlike a child that leaves home at the age of 18, an animal doesn't do that. They are with you unil they pass away. I have two elderly horses, that are over 20 and have had them since yearlings. I am now caring for the aged. They have different feed, they have to be brought in at night, I have to make sure their teeth are good. They must have a healthy, shiny coat. That they are keeping weight on.

They too, depend on me as I depend on them. They help me through thick and thin. They are there when I am happy, sad, or mad. They can't tell me when they hurt, or are pining for another horse.

It is intuition, just like mothers or fathers have for their children. They know when you are going away for a few days. They are ecstatic when you return. You have to arrange for sitters. There is a schedule to follow, which I might add would be helpful for those who don't have one for their kids! Eventhough...I don't have kids....I have been told that it is good to have structure, starting with a schedule...awww, now I am being sarcastic...

I can't stand it when someone says that I don't know what its like to have responsibility of looking after others....well, my animals may not be others in the human sense, but they are others.

ok, I feel better now.

Beautiful dayz

Last night was one of the nicest evenings I have had in a long time.

I am out at the farm this week, looking after my four legged kids and the dog.
My three year old, Katie, plays tag. Now, its probably not the best thing I can teach a 900 pound horse to do, but she only does it with me, and we have fun. It can be a little scary for someone to see a horse coming at you, but she puts the brakes on in time to touch me with her nose, I give her a cookie, and it starts all over again. I definately got my exercise last night.

I opened all the little corrals for them to nose around in and to eat all the lovely green grass before it gets too cold and turns brown. They are all getting quite fuzzy, which means the cold wind is close at hand.

My "old man", Bosley stuck fairly close to me last night and was readily available for any hug I may have had and wanted to give. He can read me like a book. I have had him since he was a yearling, he is now 22. It amazes me how attached I am to him. I have had so many others that have touched my heart but Bosley is special.

The leaves on the trees are turning colour and falling everywhere. The little dog (Penny) who now resides at the farm loves to jump up at the falling leaves. She loves barking at the squirrels who knatter away in the tall evergreen trees.

It was truly a lovely evening last night and I am hoping that tonight will be the same.

Odd Shot Monday

I always seem to have this knack for catching the animals at either yawning, licking, bawling...somehow I can click it with their mouths open and it just cracks me up. It may not be a real odd shot, but it is rare!
Odd Shots is hosted by Katney HERE!

Mondayzzz

Well the day hasn't started off so great. I am hoping it will pick up though....

BITCHOLOGY

When I stand up for myself and my beliefs, they call me a bitch.

When I stand up for those I love, they call me a bitch.

When I speak my mind, think my own thoughts or do things my own way, they call me a bitch.

Being a bitch means I won't compromise what's in my heart. It means I live my life MY way. It means I won't allow anyone to step on me.

When I refuse to tolerate injustice and speak against it, I am defined as a bitch.

The same thing happens when I take time for myself instead of being everyone's maid, or when I act a little selfish. It means I have the courage and strength to allow myself to be who I truly am and won't become anyone else's idea of what they think I 'should be.

I am outspoken, opinionated and determined. I want what I want and there is nothing wrong with that!

So try to stomp on me, try to douse my inner flame, try to squash every ounce of beauty I hold within me.
You won't succeed. And if that makes me a bitch , so be it.

I embrace the title and am proud to bear it.

Favourite Things Thursday

Well today is Favourite Things Thursday.

A favourite of mine is makeup. I love makeup. I love all the colours of eye shadow. I love how you can go to Mac or Merle Norman and get a make over. I love all the different kinds of foundation. The bronzes, blushes, eye liner. Guess that would make me a girlie-girl.

I enjoy Avon, but I mostly wear Rimmel. I find the foundation light and the colours soft for this ole skin of mine.

I think I will be one of those little old ladies in the nursing home that will have to have the really red rouge and lipstick on before I go to dinner! I think I will have my eye brows coloured in and my hair still dyed.

Yup, makeup is one of my favourite things.

Abc Wednesday Round 3....J

ABC Wednesday is hosted by Denise(Mrs Nesbitt), and let's not forget Mr. Linky

The letter J this week.

The letter J is for Juice.

When I was in Colombia I discovered the Guava fruit and have loved it ever since.

Number 1 favourite Juice: Guava (which I recently discovered it is now sold at Walmart)
YAY!!!

Rubicon is the best juice to buy. (I think)

2). Lychee

3). Orange
4). Grape

Juice is filled with many vitamins..all sorts of good things. It can't be any imposters, you know those types of juices that have the vitamins added. They taste funny. Almost chemical. Nope, the real juice is the best.

Abc Wednesday Round 3...I (a week late)

Let me see, the letter "I", eh?

The word today is Igloo.

Now contrary to what people who live in other parts of the world think, we, here in Saskatchewan do NOT live in Igloos. Nope.

We live in actual houses.

Igloo

1.
an Eskimo house, being a dome-shaped hut usually built of blocks of hard snow.
2.
Informal. any dome-shaped construction thought to resemble an igloo: immense silos topped with steel igloos.
3.
Military. a dome-shaped building for the storage of rockets or other munitions.
4.
an excavation made by a seal in the snow over its breathing hole in the ice.

Now...with that being said, yes, we do still build them, but, we don't live in them.

One week later...

Well, I am afraid that I am not organized enough this Monday to have an odd shot. I do have a few but today is not the day.

I am back though from a week at Ma's on the farm. We got alot of things done this past week.

I arrived early evening last Tuesday. I drove up to the lane, opened the gate, and drove through only to be greeted by the dogs, the horses and the llama. Once I got to the house, I carted all my luggage, veggies, and coolers into the house, had a bite to eat then hit the sack.

Wednesday was a very long day. The trainer came to pick up a 6 year old gelding to start training on and it took us about 6 hours to try to load him. We had him loaded once but when it came time to unload the "bait" horse (that was patiently waiting in the trailer all that time), the other horse stepped back and literally fell out, SO he was scared to try it again and it got dark on us about 8pm and we had to caller quits.

Thursday morning the trainer arrived and we thought it would be a very long day again, but he lead the horse to the open trailer and the horse walked right in! That was short and sweet. We then proceeded to go to the trainiers house, unload the horse and start right in with the training.

We do resistance free training here, all stress free. So once the round penning starts and if thats an easy go, the rest should follow, and it did.

Friday morning my cousin and I hit for the big city. I was slated to do a bit part in a tv series that is aired on the History Channel. I showed up for filming in the slotted time, did my thing and then promptly hit back to the farm.

Saturday morning, mom and I headed out bright and early to go pick and stack bales....which took all day and well into the evening. We stacked the last straw bale about 8pm, then headed into town to my cousin's place to sort recipies that my grama had and doled out to all the family members. We gathered them up and we are starting to compile a recipie book in her honour. That took till about 10pm. Mom and I by then, were pooped pee pickers and could no longer discuss the book planning. Hell, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open to drive back to the farm!

Sunday morning, we headed over to the trainers again to see how our little gelding was making out. He was learning lots and came along way from Thursday when we finally hauled him over.

Sunday late morning I said my good byes and headed back to Border Town. Just me and Gigi the hampster. I once again, had to leave my beloved dog Effie, with my Ma.

It is now Monday and the week starts all over again.....Odd shot Monday will have to wait. I am swamped at work today and tomorrow I am on another course.

The week ahead

Well, I am off to Ma Kettles this week. Apparently it is going to be jammed pack full of stuff my dear Ma wants me to do.
I am also trying to stop in Regina for a couple of acting gigs as well along the way. Thought I would kill two birds with one stone. Will keep you all posted though...wish me luck on both counts!!

Odd Shot Monday

Odd Shots is hosted by Katney HERE!

This week I took a picture of my hair...why you ask....well, there is so much static in my apartment that I have gone through two....yes TWO television sets. I am now working on my third!

So this is my odd shot of static electricity on the top of my little wee pea -sized head!

This just in...

Some people are like slinkies- Not really good for anything but they bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs

Getting Even

My ma sent this joke to me...thought it was pretty cute...thought I would share (for a change).

One December day we found an old straggly cat at our door.
She was a sorry sight. Starving, dirty, smelled terrible, skinny, and hair all matted down.
We felt sorry for her, put her in a carrier and took her to the vet.
We didn't know what to call her, so we named her 'Pussycat.'
The vet decided to keep her for a day or so. He said he would let us know when we could come and get her.
My husband (the complainer) said, 'OK, but don't forget to wash her, she stinks.'
He reminded the vet that it was his WIFE (me) that wanted the dirty cat, not him.
My husband and my Vet don't see eye to eye.
The vet calls my husband 'El-Cheap-O', and my husband calls the vet 'El-Charge-O'.
They love to hate each other, and constantly 'snip' at one another, with my husband getting in the last word on this particular occasion.
The next day my husband had an appointment with his doctor, who is located in the same building, next door to the vet. The MD's waiting room and office was full of people waiting to see the doctor.
A side door opened and the vet leaned in - he had obviously seen my husband arrive.
He looked straight at my husband and in a loud voice said,
"Your wife's pussy doesn't stink any more, and it's finally clean and shaved, so she now smells like a rose. Oh, and, by the way, I think she's pregnant. God only knows who the father is!'

Then he closed the door.

Now THAT, my friends, is getting even

Finally...Wild West Womens Weekend

Well, it took me long enough...I finally have a few pics of the WWWW.
This is us BEFORE we hit the trail. 15 miles and 5 hours later, the sorry group of us staggered in...ok not all of us were "sorry", but there were some sad lookin' riders that came back!!

This is my trusty little borrowed Arab...Gharamus. He is a little 20 year old spitfire! What a great time!

Here we are (Gharamus and I), with Bonnie and her little mare ahead of us in a pine tree covered area.
A good time was had by all and I am looking forward to it again..

Sky Watch Friday

OK....I'm gonna do this too. I read all kinds of weather reports from all over the world on these blogs spots so I will conform. The peer pressure got to me! Ahhh, who am I kidding. I find it fascinating.

The weather here today is dreary. It is supposed to rain but farmer Legs is hoping on hope that it wont. The canola is down, the barley is about ready to be cut and the hay bales are just now starting to get picked up. However...on a good note, with all this rain the pastures are still green and the wind is still warm. I took this shot off my balcony this morning. On our way into the Border Town we did encounter a few raindrops....

Happy Birthday Grapa! Favourite Things Thursday

If my grandfather were alive today, we would be celebrating his birthday today. A Favourite Thing! How appropriate!

My grandfather meant and still means the world to me to this day. I miss him terribly.

He taught me alot of things. He taught me how to hammer nails, how to drive the truck, car, grain truck (stick shift and all), the tractor and the grader. He showed me how to properly shovel manure so that you could pack more on! Teehee. He taught me how to play crib. The list goes on and on....

Nobody was prepared (and when are you really?)for his death, least of all me. You just think that people who mean the most to you will live forever...physically. Now that he is gone he still teaches me things.

Patience for one. I can hardly wait to see him again, but I have to wait. It is not my time.

Secondly, humour, I think of all the good times we had. Like the time we were driving in the pasture and I ran over a boulder. We hit that rock so hard that both of our heads hit the roof of the truck, grapa's lower dentures flew out of his mouth and on to the dash. We both looked at each other. He put his teeth back in and we got out to see how much damage I did. I scraped off the bumper and the front axle was hung up on the rock. Grapa looked at me and said, "I'll get the tractor and we won't tell grama about this." To this day it still makes me laugh.

Thirdly, pathos, I have never felt a feeling like this before. With him being gone, this is what I feel....sorrow, emptiness, desolate. I hate it. I don't want to talk about that part.

But today is his birthday...so Happy Birthday Grapa!

You are never far from my thoughts, you are never far from my heart and I know you are always with me.

I love you,
Your Liebling

ABC Wednseday Round 3.....H

The letter H is of course, also one of my favourite things...Horse.....ok, you all had to know I was going to do it!! I mean really, why would I disppoint?!

Napoleon had one.

Custer had one.

The Nez Perce Indians had them...and I have them....

A horse of course!

Horse and Rider

The prairie blows the grasses

And whips the horse’s mane.

They travel, horse and rider,

Through the sea of amber grain.

Hills roll by, and clouds pass

But steady are the horse’s hooves

Upon the wind blown grass

As they travel, horse and rider

There is no trail that they follow

No path that can be seen

There they travel, horse and rider

Upon the endless blowing green

Horse Poet
There are many, many breeds of horses and all have very special characteristics.
Appaloosas have a "hiden" gait called the Appaloosa shuffle, which is a cross between a lope (canter for all you English riders out there) and a jog (again a trot for the English rider). It is unique to watch.
Missouri Fox Trotters also have a fascinating gait. It isnt quite a trot and its not quite a walk but man, is it smooth and it is ground covering.
Horses are very sensitive to the emotions of others. They are perceptive of all things great and small. You are the predator and they are the prey...they know when to run! They all have personalities....they can be happy, sad, moody, stubborn. Just like us.
Horses come in all shapes and sizes and all colours.
Oh, and H is also for "Holy Hell!" which I say alot!!!
Holy Hell is normally said when things either frustate me or take me off guard. Holy Hell is also used when a driver on the road does something not very bright. Like sit infront of a green light while texting someone and others behind are honking for them to go. Its kind of funny to watch but also not very smart....and not to mention dangerous. That is another blog!
I could go on....but I won't.

Are the stars alright?

OK...seriously...after just reading about Blue, Nydia, and Wilma....I think the stars are outta whack. What is with us? When is it gonna end? OMG Blanche!

I think we should all just calm down, have a cup of tea, get into our happy clothes and watch a bit of the boob tube...say...Three's Company? Maybe Get Smart? How about Gilligan's Island?

Is our Karma flat? Is our Aura Black?...hey that rhymes!

Anyway...whatever the heck it is...I demand it stop (only child syndrome kicking in). We have had enough. We our taking ourselves back! Aliens-leave! (where did that come from?)

Oh...man I better go have breakfast...

Tuesday

Well...apparently I am in for a real treat today!! The two Primiere's from Alberta and Saskatchewan will be here today. Apparently this the first time ever that they will have been together here in the Border Town. They are coming for a ribbon cutting ceremony which will officially open the new wing at the College. The Bill Kondro wing will house the nurses station...which means I may get a new office...yes....my little office (which is in coat check) will be no more....of course, I have heard this before. When I first started here at the Theatre, I had been told that I would only be "set up" in the back of coat check for only a couple of months....a couple in deed....12 months later and I am still here!
Oh well....

Anyway...Brad Wall (Sask Preemie) and Ed Stelmach (Alta Preemie) may also be attending our Volunteer Appreciation Tea this afternoon as well. We have about 50 volunteers who help us out during performances, so today is their day and they may be in for a surprize if we can swing it.

Ahhh never a dull moment here....

Odd shot Mondays....

Hosted by Katney is Odd Shot Monday.

This is one of ma's cats. His name is Raff. He is infatuated with the swifer. We nicknamed him "Linus".

My one on one

The past three days have not been good days. I am not sure what is wrong but I am sad. Like "nerves" sad. I have been bawly, shakey, and just plain down-in-the-dumps sad.

I tired of being happy for everyone, I am tired of smiling all the time, and I am super tired of being jovial to co-workers and others who I know don't like me. They make me feel on edge. I never know what they are going to say or how they are going to say it. I am tired of trying to accomodate people when they don't do it in return. I am sick of fighting with Legs. I am tired of being the "shrink" for certain people (they know who they are). I am just tired....

Yesterday was extremely bad. I went out to see the horses and as soon as I saw my ole man Bosley, I started to cry...and he just stood there and let me. After I had my little session, I then cleaned and trimmed everyone's feet, groomed everybody, then went back to town to my stupid one bedroom hole and stayed there the whole day. The good thing about that is that I stayed busy. The apartment is spotless and the laundry is done!

My cousin then called and as soon as she asked how things were going, I once again started to bawl. She was silent. I have never done that to her before and feel bad now that it happened. I just couldn't stop myself. I told her that there are days I wish I was with Grama and Grapa. That scared her. I didn't mean for her to be nervous about that. Its just that Heaven is a place where there is Peace, tranquility, happiness. No crap there. Plain and simple!

Today, I still feel down but am not bawly. I took my shakey pill again today and it seems to be helping. I'm just so sad. Like the type of sad when someone passes.

Tomorrow is Volunteer Appreciation Day here at work. I gotta snap outta this funk.

Maybe I will pick up tomorrow....I mean it is still only Monday morning.....maybe I shoulda went to church yesterday....nah....I got my one on one while I was with Bosley......maybe tomorrow will be better.

Favourite Things Thursday

Well, today is going to be short and sweet as it is yet another outta control day here at work. The phones are down in the box office and people are calling me instead! It is crazy!

One of my favourite things is the colour Green!

I love all colours of green.

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. It is comforting for me.

One of my favourite foods are fried green tomatoes and they only come once a year so I take full advantage of them. I am forever frying some. They are a main staple when they are around.

It was one of my gramas favourite too. She always sliced them and floured them on either side, salt and peppered them, then fried them in butter until they were brown and then served them with fresh bread!
Man, that is good!
Yup, green is one of my favourites to go along with fried green tomaotes!!!

ABC Wednesday...Round 3...Letter G

Ahhhh the letter G!

G is for Garlic...

Not only does it ward of Vampires but it is delicious in any dish. You can use it in curry, stir fry, any type of meat, bread, veggies.... and you can take it daily as it helps your body fight off many things...yes G is for Garlic.

Here is a great recipie for Brushetta!! A real favourite of mine.

Ingredients:

1.5 lbs ripe juicy tomatoes slices crusty Italian bread, cut 1/2 in. thickgarlic clove minced1-2 T capers, rinsed1/4 c loosely packed fresh oregano or fresh basilS&P1/3 c extra virgin olive oil

Directions:

Bring medium sauce pan of water to a boil. Cut a cross at the root end of the tomatoes and drop them into boiling water. Cook until skin of tomates begins to split, 1-2 min. Transfer tomatoes to bowl of iced water. Peel and seed tomatoes, then roughly chop. Place in strainer over bowl for 20-30 min. Brush bread lightly with olive oil and place over hot grill or under broiler until golden on each side. Put tomatoes, garlic, capers, and oregano or basil in bowl. Season with s & p. Add oil and mix. Spoon tomato mixture over each bread slice....YUMMY!!!

another favourite is Guacamole

In a bowl:

Mush up an avacado

fry about 3 strips of bacon until crisp and save the fat, then break up bacon and add fat and all to the bowl of mushed avacado then add

garlic (minced)

"epicure" spice: chili lime (about 1tsp)

and mix together. Then add 1 squeezed key lime and mix again....it is delish!!!

Garlic's health benefits and medicinal properties have long been known. Garlic has long been considered a herbal "wonder drug", with a reputation in folklore for preventing everything from the common cold and flu to the Plague! It has been used extensively in herbal medicine. Raw garlic is used by some to treat the symptoms of acne and there is some evidence that it can assist in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.

wwww...I think

Well, I just got back from the Women's Wild West Weekend hosted by the lovely Barb in beautiful Manitoba...it was good to be home!

There was loads to do and tons to eat. I attempted to roast corn on the fire. I normally soak it before I put it in the coals but this time I was prompted to put it on the grate and cook it that way. It turned out pretty good, for the first time! There was also chicken chili, lasagna, potato salad, coleslaw, garden salad, sausage, buffalo cabbage rolls, chocolate zuccini cake, mississippi mud cake...and that was just for supper. For breakfast there was fresh farm eggs, crispy bacon and lotsa toast...white bread only please!!

The riding was a 15 mile trek and I SURVIVED!!!! I forgot about some of the muscles I had. But all in all I didn't feel too bad. MooMoo was pretty sore the next day and couldn't muster the umpff to get back in to the saddle again.

We left the second day in the evening and it rained from Virden all the was home....and it rained the next day as well. We were wondering how the women were doing, if it was raining there or not.

I must download a few of the pics tomorrow for perusal.

It was a great time and I am looking forward to the estrogen bonding experience again!

Ahhhh George
